- Reference Syntax -

Describes the syntax of the reference of an entry in the classification.

Syntax

[®][EntryType][Illustrated][PlacementBegin]Year:Editor[(Author)][/Volume][(Issue)][:Page][{RefYear}][PlacementEnd]

The syntax has these parts:

Part Description
® Indicates an authorative entry.
EntryType Type of entry in the given reference. See Settings.
Illustrated Indicates the presence of an illustration of the taxon (usually a species).
Placement The position of the entry in the current classification with respect to the original publication.
Year The year of publication
Editor The editor(s) in chief or main author(s) of the reference.
Author The author of the specific article in which the most official (see EntryType) entry appeared.
Volume The volume in which the most official (see EntryType) entry appeared.
Issue The number of the issue in which the most official (see EntryType) entry appeared.
Page The page on which the most official (see EntryType) entry appeared.
RefYear The year of publication of the cited reference within the original reference. Only when EntryType is "Reference".

Settings

The EntryType part has these settings:

Setting Description
n Official entry stating a new taxon.
d Official entry with description.
o Official entry.
m Official entry with missing levels.
u Unofficial entry, e.g. out of context or as illustration only.
f Suffix questionable. The suffix reflect the may not the gender
v Validity questionable. It is not clear from the reference if the name is valid or invalid, e.g. a junior synonym.
r Reference.
a Alternative.
s Synonym.
e Error.

The Illustrated part has these settings:

Setting Description
i An illustration is present.

The Placement part has these settings:

Setting Description
... Original.
[...] Indirect.
(...) Uncertain.
